Watermark Coffee Joins the UN Global Compact: Brewing a Better Future

May 29, 2025 | News

At Watermark Coffee, we’ve always believed that doing good business means doing right by people and the planet. That’s why we’re proud to announce that we have officially joined the United Nations Global Compact – the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative.

For those who may not be familiar, the UN Global Compact is a voluntary initiative based on CEO commitments to implement universal sustainability principles and to take steps to support UN goals. It’s built around ten principles covering human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption. By joining, we are deepening our commitment to operate responsibly and transparently, while continuing to grow as a positive force in our industry and community.

What This Means for Us (and for You)

As a small Irish B2B coffee company, we’re rooted in community and grounded in values. Becoming a signatory of the UN Global Compact strengthens our focus on key areas such as:

  • Human Rights & Labour Standards: We value fairness, equality, and dignity in the workplace. Our team already reflects this, with a strong track record in gender balance, internal promotion, and inclusive recruitment. This new commitment keeps us accountable and moving forward.

  • Environmental Responsibility: Through initiatives like Green Ocean and our climate action partnerships, we’ve taken local steps with real environmental benefits. As part of the Compact, we’ll continue to measure, manage, and minimise our impact with even more purpose.

  • Ethical Business Practices: Trust and transparency are at the heart of how we work with suppliers and customers. We’re aligning our operations with international best practice, ensuring that ethics remain central to how we do business every day.

Looking Ahead

Joining the UN Global Compact isn’t just a badge—it’s a promise. It means continuing to challenge ourselves, sharing our progress openly, and learning from others across industries and borders. Whether it’s through reducing carbon footprints, supporting equality, or improving working conditions, we’re committed to contributing meaningfully to the Sustainable Development Goals.

We’re excited about this journey and grateful for the support of our customers, partners, and community who share our belief that business can be a powerful force for good.

Together, we’ll keep brewing something better.
