Watermark Coffee Technology came into reality from a hobby for fixing things, a curiosity for how coffee machines worked and, of course, an enthusiasm for coffee and its preparation. This was nearly 30 years ago when espresso coffee drinks in Ireland were niche.
Over the last two decades, Watermark slowly became prominent in installing and repairing coffee machines to a growing customer base as Ireland, and the rest of the world, was developing a taste for Cappuccino, latte and Americano. During this period, Watermark became strongly associated with the Italian coffee machine brand Gaggia. The partnership of sound engineering with sound aftersales service and repair became the benchmark which others sought to replicate.
In 2006 Marguerite and David Lawlor took over the reins at Watermark. With new owners; investment was made to enlarge the field service team, move to a larger business premises which involved a new and enlarged workshop, a modern showroom and training centre and a new office was designed with the express view of improving our customers’ experience.
As a result of the economic down turn our business world changed; selling coffee machines became a very challenging task for a number of reasons. It was a bleak and difficult time for both our customers and us. Despite the economic circumstances, we battled on; we thought about our business model and adapted it where we could to take advantage of our strengths. The dedication and hard work came to fruition in 2009 when we were nominated as the sole agent for Gaggia commercial coffee machines to the UK market and this allowed a new impetus and a broadening of our market which was an important milestone for the business.
